  News   File Image A review of the Abia state audit report has shown that the state’s commissioner for environment Philemon Asonye Ogbonna received the sum of N41.6 million into his personal account against fiscal laws. According to details in the audit report, the money was meant for Abia Industrial and Innovative Park at Owaza, Ukwa West local government area. This contradicts the provisions of the financial regulation 809 in the state as such payments are supposed to pass through proper vouching, documentation and due process. Another sum of N37.8 million was reportedly paid into the account of Alozie Kelechi C., a former permanent secretary in the state, and Obinna Nwaokoma, who is a director of finance in the state. Federal Government Stops Monthly Federal Allocation To Rivers State, Cites Court Order | #NwokeukwuMascot

  News   File Image The President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government has halted the October monthly Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) revenue payment to Rivers State, citing a court order as the reason. The development comes amid an ongoing dispute between Rivers State Governor Simi Fubara and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Nyesom Wike.   According to Bawa Mokwa, Spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, the decision to stop the payment is in respect of the court order, which bars the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigerian government from disbursing monthly allocations to the Rivers State government.   News   File Image A father of five from Terengganu, Malaysia, has been sentenced to a public caning after being convicted of the Islamic crime of ‘khalwat’, or close proximity between unmarried persons, for the third time. The 42-year-old construction worker was found guilty and sentenced to six strokes of the cane and a fine by a Sharia court judge, according to state news agency Bernama.   The caning is scheduled to take place at a mosque on December 6 following Friday prayers, provided the man does not file an appeal, announced Terengganu state executive councillor Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi, a report by Reuters said. "This punishment involves caning, but what makes it unusual this time is the judge's decision for it to be conducted publicly," he said in a Facebook video.   "This is a new development in Terengganu. Abia Ranked 35th in VAT Revenue Generation for August 2024 | #NwokeukwuMascot

  News   File Image Abia State has been ranked 35th in Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue generation among Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), according to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) figures for August 2024. The state recorded a total VAT collection of N663.42 million , positioning it near the bottom of the list. Lagos State retained its lead as the highest VAT-generating state, contributing a staggering N249.77 billion . Rivers State followed with N70.54 billion , while Oyo, the FCT, and Delta State rounded out the top five with N20.11 billion , N18.17 billion , and N13.09 billion , respectively.   Abia’s performance is notably lower compared to its neighboring states. Anambra generated N4.28 billion , ranking 9th, while Ebonyi collected N1.90 billion , securing the 20th position.
