  News   File Image Seventeen local government mayors recently removed by Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, have finalized plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to a close source, one of the personal assistants to a disgruntled former mayor, the decision was reached during a meeting held last week in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The source, speaking anonymously, disclosed that the mayors have been holding a series of meetings since Governor Otti reneged on his promise to retain them. “They have vowed to repay Governor Otti with the same frustration he caused them,” the source stated. “The mayors feel betrayed and believe they were used and discarded by the governor.” The former mayors are reportedly set to join forces with opposition stakeholders in the state to disrupt Governor Otti’s re-election campaign in 2027. “Some of these mayors left well-paying jobs and abandoned their families and businesses abroad to serve as mayors,” the source explained.

Specifically, the office was accused of defaulting in the payment of waste disposal bills as required by Section 30(4) & (5) of the AEPB Act and the corresponding Waste Management Rates (Charges) Regulations, 2012.
