It will be recalled that the Super Eagles, who departed Nigeria on Sunday, encountered an unexpected challenge when their flight was diverted to a remote airport far from the match venue. This detour resulted in an additional three-hour road journey to reach their destination. Super Eagles Back Home The situation took a turn for the worse as the players, pilots, and other personnel were stranded at the Libyan airport for over 13 hours without access to basic necessities such as food, water, or proper rest facilities. According to a close source, one of the personal assistants to a disgruntled former mayor, the decision was reached during a meeting held last week in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The source, speaking anonymously, disclosed that the mayors have been holding a series of meetings since Governor Otti reneged on his promise to retain them. “They have vowed to repay Governor Otti with the same frustration he caused them,” the source stated. “The mayors feel betrayed and believe they were used and discarded by the governor.” The former mayors are reportedly set to join forces with opposition stakeholders in the state to disrupt Governor Otti’s re-election campaign in 2027. “Some of these mayors left well-paying jobs and abandoned their families and businesses abroad to serve as mayors,” the source explained.
