  News    File Image  The Bayelsa State government has disclosed that the palliatives carted away by residents in Yenagoa, the state capital, who invaded warehouse are unfit for human consumption. SaharaReporters had reported how some residents broke into a warehouse where palliatives were kept by the Bayelsa State government in Yenagoa on Sunday. The warehouse is located along Isaac Boro Expressway in the state capital. SaharaReporters gathered that people were angered due to the hardship in the country occasioned by the removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise known as petrol. The subsidy removal moved up the prices of petrol from around N190 to about N620 per litre and this had adversely affected the prices of goods and services. Subsequently, the administration of President Bola Tinubu promised to provide palliatives for Nigerians to cushion the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy.   News    File Image  A private warehouse in the Kpansia area of Yenagoa used by the Bayelsa State government to store foodstuffs and other materials was on Sunday invaded by some residents of the state capital who carted away food items and other items. The items included bags of rice and garri as well as cartons of noodles and bottled water, and they were said to be part of the relief materials donated by some concerned Nigerians during the 2022 flood disaster in the state. It was learnt that the incident occurred at about 7:30 pm, even as some of the residents stormed the warehouse located along the Isaac Boro Expressway with pick-up vans and private vehicles to move the foodstuffs away, most of which had already gone bad. While the looting was going on, the state government deployed men from its security outfit called Doo Akpo to disperse the residents and secure the building. The demolition exercise, which was carried out through a joint effort of the Osisioma Ngwa, Obingwa, Aba North, Aba South and Ugwunagbo Local Government Areas Town Planning Authorities, saw to the demolition of illegal structures and sealing of unapproved ones within Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State. The exercise began from Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area with the sealing of a Petroleum Filling Station at Umuojima Junction, along the Aba-Enugu-Port Harcourt Highway which the owner was reported to have refused getting a permit before construction.   News    File Image  Nigerian Air Force aircraft departed Abuja on Sunday afternoon for Paris, France.  The Dassault Falcon 7X, with registration number 5N-FGU, departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja at 4.18 pm due to a delay as its Scheduled Time of Departure (STD) was 3 pm. The reason for the delay could not be established at the time of filing this report. However, SaharaReporters learnt that the aircraft is expected to touch down at Paris-Le Bourget Airport by 10.42 pm.  The aircraft landed in Abuja at 6 pm from Gombe on Saturday and in the last six days, it has been to Lagos, Abuja Maiduguri, Kano and Gombe.  It is also not clear why the Nigerian Air Force aircraft departed for Paris or the identities of the people on board; however, SaharaReporters learnt that it could be connected to the political crisis in the Republic of Niger following the July 26 coup d'etat that ousted its democratically elected president, Mohamed Bazoum. The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to immediately recognise and publish the names of all the governorship candidates produced by the Apapa-led National Working Committee in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi states. The court also dismissed the governorship candidature of Senator Athan Achonu of Imo State, and others belonging to the Abure-led LP faction.
