Police confirm murder of businessman by a suspected Hausa man in Onitsha market | #NwokeukwuMascot

Crime File Image The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the killing of an unidentified businessman in Onitsha, the commercial city of the state. The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the incident to the Nigerian Tribune and stated that the command has commenced an investigation into the incident. According to reports, the businessman was allegedly stabbed to death by a contracted labourer. The labourer was hired by the businessman to assist in unloading goods at his warehouse, which is located in the section of the market where baking materials are sold. The exact cause of the incident is still unclear, but sources at the market revealed that an argument over payment ensued between the labourer and the businessman. It is not confirmed whether the businessman was robbed, but there are unverified reports suggesting that the labourer may have made off with the deceased’s money.  NEWS  The Governor of Abia state, Dr. Alex Otti is out to probe the administration of his Predecessor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, the LP Governor yesterday inaugurated the state judicial panel of inquiry, led by Justice Ikwuoma Duruoha Igwe RTD. Terms of Reference of the panel include: 1.) To receive and examine complaints and memoranda from individuals and other entity on the looting or conversion of government properties, funds and related matters, and where necessary. 2.) Make recommendations to the government for remedial measures or any other measure as appropriate. 3.) To examine and ascertain whether government’s moveable or immovable assets and funds have been illegally acquired or occupied or converted to private use, and identify the person who is responsible and further make recommendations for recovering and appropriate sanctions. 4.)  NEWS Tochi Ephraim Facts have emerged that Mr Tochi Ephraim, a revenue Contractor in Abia State was arrested and remanded in prison for flouting the orders of the Executive Governor of Abia State Dr Alex Otti on termination of all revenue contracts in the state. PUO Reports that Governor Alex Otti had through his Chief Press Secretary terminated all revenue contracts in the state on the 6th of June 2023 and directed all revenue agents to return every government documents in their possession. It was gathered that Mr Tochi Ephraim popularly known as TOMPA and his colleagues did not abide by the directives of the Abia State Governor.  NEWS INEC Chairman and EU Mission Officials  The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) has stated that the presidential selection of the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) leaves the electoral body vulnerable to the perception of partiality. The group asserted that the 2023 general elections did not ensure a well-run transparent and inclusive democratic process as assured by INEC. The EU EOM noted this in its final report released on Tuesday in Abuja, identifying the lack of INEC independent structures and capacities to enforce sanctions for electoral offences and breaches of campaign finance rules as a weak point. The group explained that public confidence and trust in INEC were severely damaged during the presidential poll and were not restored in state-level elections, leading civil society to call for an independent audit of the entire process. NEWS Dr Alex Otti Following a release from the office of Abia Governor’s Chief press secretary, Mr Kazie Uko, captioned; “OTTI FULFILLS PROMISE TO ABIA WORKERS, PAYS JUNE SALARIES.” Abia state government has confirmed the payment of June salary to core civil-servants. Recall  we earlier reported plans to pay only June salary while April and May salary  counts as arrears.
