PHOTOS: Surgeons Remove Live Grenade From Russian Soldier's Chest

Team of Russian surgeons successfully removed a live grenade stuck in a soldier's body. The soldier, Nikolay Pasenko, had been turned into a ‘human bomb’ after been hit by a grenade which smashed through his rib cage, stayed trapped inside him but failed to detonate while fighting in Ukraine. According to Daily Mail UK, the medical team wore body armour, because they knew the grenade could detonate during the surgery with devastating effects at such close quarters. Pasenko initially resisted surgery saying, “He did not want the doctors to suffer as the munitions could have exploded.” "The ammunition was located between the aorta and the inferior vena cava, It's not every day that you take an [explosive] out of a person, and in a place where moving to the right or left can lead to the death of the patient. Aide Distances Gov Diri From Leaked Sex Tape In South Africa.

Dr Kola Oredipe, the Director, New Media to the Bayelsa State governor, Douye Diri, has distanced his principal from a leaked sex tape in South Africa. A sex tape of the Speaker of the Free State, Zanele Sifuba, had been leaked and trending on social media in the country early November and there had been speculations that a Nigerian leaked the sex tape. In a development on Friday, a newly opened Facebook page named after the speaker shared a photo of Diri and accused him of being the one who leaked the intimate tape. Oredipe in a statement on Saturday denied the claims, saying the post was meant to tarnish the image of the Bayelsa governor who hasn't travelled to South Africa in 10 years and can't be demanding a ransom of eight million naira. Lady who jumped into Lagos Lagoon identified as a DSS staff

The lady who jumped into Lagos Lagoon on Thursday afternoon has been identified as Adetutu Adedokun, a staff of the Department of State Services (DSS). According to the Uber driver, Adedokun had an argument with her boyfriend and in the heat of the altercation, she ordered him to stop and disembarked from the cab. She had alighted from a Uber taxi, headed towards the railings of the bridge and plunged into the lagoon. About four months ago, she was said to have received commendations from the DG, DSS, as the best unarmed combat operative in her set. The victim’s fiancĆ© was also reported to have proposed to her a few weeks ago. The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu who confirmed the incident said a search and rescue team had been mobilised to search for her body. LRT officials, Men of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), and officials of the DSS swung into action in search of the victim.

Four Confirmed Dead as Explosion Rocks Anambra Market

Over four persons were confirmed dead and 20 others injured after fire gutted the Chemical Market, Onitsha Bridgehead, Anambra State. The fire was said to have started around 12.10pm on Tuesday when chemicals stored in one of the shops along the Progressive Science Union Line exploded. PUNCH Metro  gathered that the incident led to a stampede in the heavily populated market, which resulted in the deaths and injuries. Men of the Anambra and Delta states fire service reportedly came with two trucks and battled to stop the inferno to no avail. Nnamdi Kanu: Igbo Group Drags South East Governors, Others To Shrine

An Igbo group known as Eziokwu Bu Ndu (Ofo n'Ogo) which is sympathetic to the Biafra course, said it has dragged the five South East governors and some other Igbo leaders to two popular shrines in the country over the plight of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu's predicament.  The other Igbo leaders said to have been dragged before Ogoni Zodere Shrine in Bidere Community in Rivers State and Okija Shrine in Anambra State, are Willy Obiano, former governor of Anambra State and Rochas Okoroacha former governor of Imo State. Nigeria Police Officers Remove Uniform As Gunmen Attack Checkpoint.

Yet to be identified  gunmen on Tuesday attacked a police checkpoint in Ihiala local government area of Anambra state. Pandemonium rocked the state following the attack which caused police officers to flee from their duty post. According to Daily Post, some residents are feared to have been gunned down while others are reportedly injured. It was gathered that the incident happened around 10.30 in the morning along the Ihiala-Uli axis in Ihiala LGA. The publication reports that security operatives stationed at the checkpoint removed their uniforms and took cover in nearby bushes and available shelters. The Onitsha- Owerri expressway had been abandoned. The attack forced drivers and commuters to run for dear lives and commercial bus drivers have suspended operations along the route.

Gov Ikpeazu bans unauthorized use of School facilities, Stadium, others for political rallies

Abia State government has placed a ban on the use of School facilities, Stadium and other public places in the state without the consent of the State governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu.  Gov Ikpeazu made the declaration via a statement signed by state commissioner for information, Eze Chikamnayo. The governor said it’s important for any political party to sort the state government’s permission before using any public facilities in the state for it rallies. Ekweremadu’s Daughter In Court On Human Trafficking Charges

Sonia, the daughter of federal lawmaker, Ike Ekweremadu, on Monday appeared in court accused of trafficking a homeless man into the United Kingdom to harvest his organs for herself. According to Daily Mail, the younger Ekweremadu, was accused alongside her father Ike Ekweremadu, 60, her mother Beatrice Ekweremadu, 56, and 50-year-old doctor Obinna Obeta of conspiracy to arrange the travel of another person with a view to exploitation. It was reported that  Ms Ekweremadu has not entered a plea but a trial date has been set for January.   Sonia has a kidney-related disease and has been on dialysis for some time. --

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, got angry on Sunday and lashed out at the spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party presidential campaign council, Dino Melaye. This happened at the presidential town hall in Abuja on Sunday. Trouble started after Melaye called an attendee of the meeting ‘Obi people.’ On hearing the words of the former lawmaker, Peter Obi snapped, “Stop that Dino. Why are you always calling me? I won’t take that. This man is from ANPP. Why are you calling him Obi people?” Dino feigned ignorance but Obi insisted that he will not condone such behavior. He told Melaye, "Stop that, I have taken enough from you. Why are you always calling me?"

HALF SALARY: We cannot pay for work not done – FG replies ASUU.

The Federal Government on Saturday explained why it failed to pay full salaries to lecturers under the aegis of the Academic Staff Union of Universities. In a statement, by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, the government noted that members of ASUU were paid their October salary pro-rata. According to the ministry, pro-rata was done because they cannot be paid for work not done. The statement further clarified that the Honourable Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, never directed the Accountant General of the Federation to pay the university lecturers half salaries. The statement reads in part, “Following the ruling of the Court of Appeal, which upheld the order of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, asking ASUU to go back to work, the leadership of the union wrote to the Minister, informing him that they have suspended the strike. South-East Indigenes Shun Nigerian Army Recruitment, Failed to Meet Required Slot.

Indigenes of South-East states are unable to fill their quota of admission into the Nigerian Army, over fear of ethnic and religious prejudices, inadequate equipment to prosecute assignments and hoarding of vacancies a circulating report says. The Enugu State government had on Friday also expressed worries over the inability of the state to fill its quota in previous recruitment exercises. “Regrettably, during the recruitment exercise for the 82 and 83 Regular intakes, Enugu State contingents were only 73 and 49 people respectively as opposed to the 150 slots reserved for the state on each occasion based on the quota system. “The consequence of today’s inaction is that in time, our dear state would obviously be unevenly represented when other personnel recruited would have progressed in service.  “Uninformed observers could erroneously misinterpret this scenario in future as marginalisation and imbalance in the federal character”.

Sen Ike Ekweremmadu A Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday ordered an interim forfeiture of 40 landed property belonging to the embattled former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who is currently in custody in the United Kingdom. Justice Inyang Ekwo made the order following an ex-parte motion filed and moved by Ibrahim Buba on behalf of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. While granting the order, the Judge ordered the EFCC to publish the interim forfeiture order of the properties in a national daily within seven days.
