DSS arrests terror suspects, US orders employees’ departure.

Two terror suspects have been arrested by the Department of State Services operatives who stormed the Trademore Estate in the Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Monday. The security operatives were said to have shut the entrance and exit gates of the estate while the operation lasted. Our correspondent gathered that the two suspects said to be siblings were taken into custody on an allegation of terrorism. This happened less than 24 hours after the United States and the United Kingdom warned of a possible terror attack in Abuja, especially targeted at government buildings, places of worship and schools, among others. Following this development, the US government has authorised the departure of its non-essential employees and their families from Nigeria. The US State Department announced this in its updated Nigeria travel advisory on Tuesday evening. Olisa Metuh resigns from PDP, says he’ll no longer participate in partisan politics.

Olisa Metuh, former national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has resigned from his membership in the party. In a letter addressed to  Iyorchia Ayu , national chairman of the PDP, Metuh said he will no longer be involved in partisan politics. He also said his decision is to enable him make more contributions to good governance. “During my three weeks trip for medical and personal reasons, I came to the realisation that I can no longer play partisan politics in Nigeria,” the letter reads. “The reason for this decision is that from my experience and the nature of politics and development in Nigeria, I believe that I will contribute more to democracy and good governance in Nigeria by being non-partisan. “Being non-partisan gives me the status to work for the strategic interest and well-being of the Nigerian people without the hinderance of partisanship. “In that regard, I write respectfully, to formally inform you of my resignation from the PDP and cessation of p

The Nigerian Government has expressed strong disapproval of the security advisories recently issued by certain embassies about insecurity in the country. Lai Mohammed, information and culture minister, condemned the act on Tuesday in Abuja at a ministerial panel of the ongoing UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Week. The minister also blamed Nigerian media and social media personalities for reporting the news. The U.S. on Sunday warned that there was an elevated risk of terror attacks in Nigeria, especially in Abuja, the nation's capital. Gov Nyesom Wike Rivers State Governor, Barr  Nyesom Wike  has vowed to resign if anybody can prove that he promised to make him his successor. The Governor in a statement on Tuesday by his Special Assistant, Media, Kelvin Ebiri, said it was impossible that he would make a promise to help someone to succeed him and renege on it. The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has revealed why he removed the picture of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Abubakar Atiku, from the Rivers State campaign poster. Wike revealed this while speaking at the inauguration of Rivers State PDP campaign council on Monday. He claimed that Atiku picked those that he wanted to work with in Rivers State without his contribution. The Appeal Court sitting in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, has upheld the judgment setting the leader of the Self Determination Movement, Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, free. According to the lawyer to Kanu, Chief Mike Ozekhome, (SAN), the court on Monday upheld the freedom of Kanu. A 49-year-old's body identified; Kenyan authorities requested to complete regulatory process of transferring body soon Senior journalist Arshad Sharif died in Kenya's Nairobi city after reportedly being shot, confirmed his wife Javeria Siddiqui early Monday. Taking to her official Twitter handle, Siddiqui said "I lost friend, husband and my favourite journalist Arshad today, as per police he was shot in Kenya." Briefing the media on the development, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said that Pakistan's ambassador to Kenya, Syeda Saqlain, Kenyan police officials and doctors are currently at the mortuary in Nairobi where the ambassador has identified Sharif's body. The Department of State Services has asked Nigerians to remain calm but vigilant following the security alert issued by the United States Embassy in Abuja that there could be possible terrorist attack in the city this week. The DSS in a statement by its Spokesman Dr. Peter Afunanya advised Nigerians to be cautious, the Service however assured that it would work with other security agencies to maintain the peace. The photograph of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, is conspicuously missing on the party’s branded vehicles for campaigns for the 2023 general election in Rivers State. The branded vehicles, numbering about 25 are set to be unveiled on Monday, October 24, 2022, along with the party campaign council secretariat, located along Woji Road in GRA, Port Harcourt. The United States of America, Embassy in Federal Capital Territory has issued a security alert on another possible terrorists attack in Abuja. In a statement publish on its official website, the U.S Embassy revealed that there is an elevated risk of terror attacks in Nigeria, specifically in Abuja, adding that it will, henceforth, offer reduced services until further notice. The statement further revealed some of the places that might be the target of the terrorists, which may include, but are not limited to, government buildings, places of worship, schools, markets, shopping malls, hotels, bars, restaurants, athletic gatherings, transport terminals, law enforcement facilities, and international organizations. Flood: Lagos Government Tells Residents Of Ketu, Mile12, Others To Relocate.

Lagos State Government has convened a meeting of all critical stakeholders to evaluate the state’s preparedness for any eventuality over the ravaging massive flooding across the states of the federation. The state has, however, directed all relevant enforcement arms of the state to step up their supervisory roles to contain any eventuality. The situation which has elicited renewed fears among residents of the state was convened on the directives of the state Governor, Bababjide Sanwo-Olu. Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tunji Bello, briefing newsmen at the end of the meeting, over the weekend, said the stakeholders came up with a resolution that while Lagos is not totally immune from flooding, the state will continue to effectively manage its situation without posing risk to lives and property of residents.
