IPOB drags Wike to ICC over Obigbo massacre

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has filed a formal communication with the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) of the International Criminal Court (ICC). The petition, obtained from another IPOB’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor’s Twitter handle, is targeted against Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State over the killings in Obigbo in 2020 of IPOB members. The petition filed by Bruce Fein, international lawyer and spokesman for Nnamdi Kanu, leader of IPOB, was addressed to the ICC Chief Prosecutor, Karim Khan, Information and Evidenced Unit, Office of the Prosecutor, Post Office Box 19519, 2500, CM The Hague, The Netherlands. Fein, in the submission, dated September 28, 2022, is asking the ICC to charge Governor Wike with genocide and crimes against humanity against Biafrans. The National Examinations Council ( NECO ) has released the 2022 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination(SSCE). It blacklisted 29 supervisors for allegee involvement in various malpractice offences during the just concluded examination. Some presidential candidates and chairmen of the 18 registered political parties have started arriving the International Conference Centre (ICC) for the 1st signing of the National Peace Accord ahead of the 2023 general elections. The peace accord is organised by the National Peace Committee headed by former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar and Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah. Igbo group condemns killing of soldiers in Anambra, demands justice.

The Igbo People of Nigeria (IPN) has  condemned the ambush and subsequent murder of soldiers on a routine patrol at Umunze in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State. A statement by Anayo Mbakwe on Wednesday night described the incident as a national tragedy, barbaric and unacceptable. Mbakwe said the people of the southeast are known to be loving, welcoming and hospitable. He, however, said the latest turn of events, particularly in Anambra is a serious cause for concern. Two planes crashed into each other while taxiing on Wednesday evening at the Heathrow Airport in London. Daily Mail reported that Heathrow emergency services rushed onto the tarmac after the collision. The airport management confirmed that the incident between two commercial passenger planes took place around 8pm, adding that no injuries were reported. The two planes involved are a Korean Air 777 plane, which “scraped into” an Icelandair 767 jet. The Korean Air flight Flight #KE908 was due to leave London at 19:35 to Seoul, Korea, Daily Mail added. Gunmen kill five soldiers, one civilian in Anambra. Gunmen have killed five soldiers and one unidentified civilian. The incident happened opposite one of the new generation banks in Umunze, Orumba South local government area. A source, who spoke with The Nation, the incident happened around 2pm on Wednesday. The soldiers, the source said, were in a Sienna vehicle when the hoodlums attacked them. The shooting sent panic to residents of the area. Anambra Police spokesman Ikenga Tochukwu told The Nation there was a shooting close to a bank in Umunze. He said the details had not been received, adding that the incident happened between 12-1.30 pm. He said the Command had deployed security operatives to secure the area, adding those responsible for such acts must regret it. One of the Senior Police Officers in the State, who pleaded anonymity, also confirmed the incident to The Nation.

University of Calabar(UNICAL) management has dissociated itself from arrested kidnap kingpin,  John Ewa,  otherwise known as  John Lyon . The Registrar of the institution,  Mr. Gabriel Egbe,  in a statement released on Wednesday, September 28, asserted that John Ewa, arrested for kidnappings in Bayelsa State, was never a student of the university, nor did he graduate from UNICAL. A United States Coast Guard ship on routine patrol in the Bering Sea came across a guided missile cruiser from China, officials said Monday. But it turned out the cruiser wasn't alone as it sailed about 86 miles north of Alaska's Kiska Island, on September 19. Two other Chinese naval ships and four Russian naval vessels, including a destroyer, were spotted in single formation, the patrol boat, known as a cutter called Kimball, discovered. The Honolulu-based Kimball, a 418-foot vessel, observed as the ships broke formation and dispersed. A C-130 Hercules provided air support for the Kimball from the Coast Guard station in Kodiak. The US Coast Guard disclosed the sighting on Monday in a press release.
