Varsity Strike: MOUAU-ASUU rejects FG’s new salary structure for lecturers.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike in Abia has described the Federal Government’s Consolidated Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS) as “unilateral”, hence unacceptable. The group’s position is contained in a statement jointly issued by the Chairman and Secretary of the union, Michael Ugwuene and Paul Nwiyi, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) in Umuahia on Saturday. The statement is entitled, “Failure of Government: Collective bargaining agreement is the way forward.” It stated that CONUASS awarded increases of 35 per cent and 25 per cent of current salaries to Professors at bar, and other ranks, respectively. It argued that the review was prepared by the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission and presented to the Prof. Nimi-Briggs-led FG/ASUU Renegotiation Committee, without inputs from ASUU.

Nigeria Police Force has suspended two supernumerary Police officers, Obaze Blessing and Obaze Emmanuella Uju, over misconduct and violation of social media policy. The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed this on Friday via his Twitter handle. Speaking in the video he shared on his Twitter page, he said that the two female cops portrayed themselves as undisciplined and unprofessional in the viral TikTok they released. “Above all, they portrayed themselves in the viral video and other videos as undisciplined and unprofessional in contravention of the police social media policy.’’

President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke has described some state-owned universities as quacks. Professor Osodeke, who appeared on Arise Television on Friday morning, was reacting to the resolve of some of the state universities to call off the strike and return to lectures. He said that the discussion should be about the federal universities, such as the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN; University of Ibadan, University of Maiduguri, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, among others, which according to him are the real universities in the country. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Peter Obi, presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), and Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state, met in London, United Kingdom, On Thursday. Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Donald Duke, former governor of Cross Rivers — who are Wike’s allies — also attended the meeting. I was approached by Nigerian government agent to produce a movie, I was happy because the money involved was much. When he gave me the script, I found out that the movie was all about tarnishing the image of Igbos, and I quickly rejected the offer. Now I understand the reason most of Nigerian movies are all about Igbos doing money rituals and prostitutions. Most of movies produced in Nigeria were sponsored by Nigerian government just to tarnish the image of Igbos. Nigerian Army Officer, Major Orji, Reportedly Shoot Dead In Clash With Unknown Gunmen In Anambra.

Some unidentified gunmen have reportedly killed a Nigerian Army officer, identified as Major Churchill Orji, in Anambra State. It was learnt that the army officer was killed during an operation on Monday in Azia axis, in the Ihiala Local Government Area of the state. A news medium, TheRazor, quoted a schoolmate of the deceased, Leonard Edu, to have confirmed the killing of the deceased. Edu said, “He was my senior in Agulu Boys Secondary School; our labour prefect then. It’s true he was killed by unknown gunmen at Azia, in Ihiala.” It also reported a tribute by another officer who wrote, “Rest in peace my brother from Nneogidi village, Agulu, Major Churchil Orji killed yesterday( Sunday) at Azia/ukpor defending the South-East from the marauders."
