A soldier, identified simply as Nafiu and attached to the Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment, Tungan Maje, Federal Capital Territory, has been arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services for allegedly hiring out and selling guns to kidnappers. PUNCH Metro  gathered that the suspect was arrested last week at Dankogi Park, Zuba, with the support of members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria in the area. A DSS source told our correspondent that the soldier usually lent kidnappers guns for N200,000 or N300,000. He was reportedly arrested after some kidnappers, who were arrested, implicated him. “They were asked to contact him for another deal to supply them with AK-47 rifles for N3m and he agreed. But he was arrested by operatives of the DSS with a fully loaded AK-47 rifle which he was about to exchange for N3m at the location where the transaction was supposed to take place in Zuba,” the source said. Following the Taliban’s return to power in 2021, deadly bombings, often claimed by Islamic State, have become frequent. At least 19 people were killed and 27 others wounded in a suicide attack targeting an educational centre in Kabul’s Shia neighbourhood, security officials said on Friday. In a statement, Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran said that the attacker targeted Kaj Educational Centre as a mock university entrance exam was underway. A member of the centre who asked not to be named told dpa that the attacker killed two guards and several students at the entrance gate before blowing himself up among the female students in the hall. Another eyewitness told local media that around 400 students were inside the establishment at the time of the attack. Unconfirmed reports suggest a higher death toll. The Department of State Services has warned Nigerians over making comments on its arrest of the terrorists’ negotiator, Tukur Mamu. The DSS, in a statement by its Spokesman, Peter Afunaya, Sunday, asked the public to leave the agency alone and allow it to concentrate on the investigations which it said the outcomes had been “mindboggling.” This was coming hours after the controversial Islamic cleric, Sheik Gumi, to whom Mamu is an aide, had faulted the arrest of the negotiator. Gumi, at a religious gathering on Friday, said, “Nigeria’s constitution did not say you can arrest someone without any proven evidence criminalising him and without charging him to court.
