2023: Major Abia Gubernatorial Candidates, Ikonne, Nwafor and others make INEC Final List

Ikonne&Nana The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Abia state has released the final list of governorship candidates for the 2023 election in the state.                             The list released on tuesday had names of PDP's candidate; Prof Uche Ikonne, APGA candidate; Gregory Ibeh, Labour party; Alex Otti, and YPP candidate, Engr Enyinnaya Chima Nwafor, amongst numerous others.                           The final list precedes the commencement of the governorship campaigns slated for October 12th 2022, this is according to INEC timetable.

PDP crisis: BoT convenes emergency meeting to rescue Atiku’s campaign.

Barring any last-minute change of mind, the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party will this week meet to deliberate on the crisis rocking the party. This is part of a larger plan to rescue the campaign of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, following the boycott of its campaign by some aggrieved governors of the party. The  PUNCH  learnt the advisory body is worried by the growing feud between the party and loyalists of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and may ask the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu to resign. Although details of the meeting and date were sketchy as of the time of filing this report, the immediate past BoT chairman, Senator Walid Jibrin, disclosed to  The PUNCH on  Monday that members of the board were truly disturbed as the crisis showed no sign of abating. Atiku lacks capacity to stop Biafra agitation – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has said that Presidential candidate of People Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar lacks the capacity of stopping Biafra agitation. The self determination group, which was reacting to statement credited to Atiku claiming he would stop Biafra agitation if he becomes President, cautioned him against mentioning its name during his campaign in any part of Southeast. In a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, IPOB advised Southeast politicians to warn him to stop using Biafra agitation championed by its leader, Mazi Nnamdi KANU for his political campaigns. It maintained that the only remedy to the current agitation remained fixing a date for Biafra referendum to ascertain where people from the region wished to stay. 2023: Atiku promises to support Wike for president in 2027

Worried by the danger posed to his ambition in next year’s presidential election by the camp of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP’s) flag bearer, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has offered the governor a new deal. Both men met on Thursday in Abuja in a fresh bid to patch up their differences, with Atiku promising to support Wike’s own presidential bid in 2027 if he (Wike) agreed to sheathe his sword and support him (Atiku) in the 2023 election. The duo and their supporters have been locked in a face-off since June when the former vice president overlooked Wike and picked Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate. Previous efforts to reconcile them had failed to yield any positive result. The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar has said the Igbos can only become President after he must have completed his tenure. Atiku also vowed to prioritise developmental projects in Southeast and other regions when elected, saying that any project in any State is a favour to Nigeria. Governor Nyesom Wike   of River state has recalled how the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar and a former Senate President, Saraki flawed former President Goodluck Jonathan’s pleas to rescind their decision of leaving the party in 2014. The team of the  Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike  in the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) has pulled out of the campaign Council of the party’s presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar. Rising from their stormy meeting in Port Harcourt early morning on Wednesday, members of the team vowed not to partake in Atiku’s campaign activities pending the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu. The camp of Governor Nyesom Wike in the Peoples Democratic Party has officially announced its withdrawal from participating in the presidential campaign of the party for the 2023 elections. The group made its position known after a long meeting which started at about 7pm last night and ended by past 2am this morning at the private residence of Wike in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital. Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has emerged as the new Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum.  Makinde emerged as the new chairman few minutes after the former chairman, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State resigns from the position on Thursday.  The oyo state governor emerged as the new chairman at the ongoing PDP National Executive Council Board meeting in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. A total of 397 members of the NEC including past national chairmen of the party, the immediate past Vice President of the country, Namadi Sambo, the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, among others were accredited for the meeting.
