US flew Oyo hotelier killed by herdsmen home for burial — Family

Olugbengae Owolabi Ayorinde Owolabi, the brother of a hotelier, late Olugbengae Owolabi, has said the United States of America gave the Nigerian government a time frame to find his killers. PUNCH Metro  had reported that Olugbenga and a worker at his hotel, Rachael Opadele, were abducted by gunmen at Ogbomoso, Oyo State. They were killed by their abductors on August 3. Olugbenga, a US citizen, was said to be living in Maryland, US, and decided to invest in hospitality business in his hometown, Ogbomoso. It was learnt that the hotel was opened in December 2021 and he was abducted and killed a few months after. His funeral held on October 1 at the Trinity Life Church, Maryland, US. Ayorinde, who spoke to our correspondent on Monday, said the American government asked the Department of State Services to bring his brother’s killers to justice. Fulani Herdsmen invade, destroy farms worth N50m in Enugu

There is palpable tension in Agu- Ekwegbe, Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State following the invasion and destruction of farms worth more than N50 million by herders while grazing their cattle. The owner of the farm, John Abonyi, lamented that Fulani herders have resorted to grazing their cattle on his farm. He regretted that all effort made by him and his workers to stop them from entering his farm hit the rock as Nigeria Police refused to come to their rescue even when one of the herders were arrested. Briefing journalists who went round the over three hectares of farm lands devastated by herders said that they invaded the farm he planted both maize and beans few days after he applied fertilizer on the crop. Gunmen kill five soldiers, one civilian in Anambra. Gunmen have killed five soldiers and one unidentified civilian. The incident happened opposite one of the new generation banks in Umunze, Orumba South local government area. A source, who spoke with The Nation, the incident happened around 2pm on Wednesday. The soldiers, the source said, were in a Sienna vehicle when the hoodlums attacked them. The shooting sent panic to residents of the area. Anambra Police spokesman Ikenga Tochukwu told The Nation there was a shooting close to a bank in Umunze. He said the details had not been received, adding that the incident happened between 12-1.30 pm. He said the Command had deployed security operatives to secure the area, adding those responsible for such acts must regret it. One of the Senior Police Officers in the State, who pleaded anonymity, also confirmed the incident to The Nation.

Killings: Benue to drag Miyetti Allah to ICC, says Justice Commissioner.

Benue State Government has said it would soon drag the Miyetti Allah, a Fulani socio-cultural group, to the International Criminal Court, ICC, at The Hague over the mindless invasion and killings in the state by armed Fulani herdsmen. Benue State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Michael Gusa who made this known on Thursday in Makurdi, he said it was incumbent on the government to take the action since from available records the masterminds of the genocide in the state were already known by their victims “and our killers also know themselves.” The Commissioner for justice who noted threats by the National Secretary-General of Miyetti Allah, Alhaji Saleh Alhassan to drag Governor Samuel Ortom before the ICC said the threat was preemptive given their fear that the state government would take the group to the court.
