Peter Obi doesn't need Campaign Council to win - Umeh

Senatorial Candidate for Labour Party (LP), Sen. Victor Umeh on Friday said the party does not necessarily need a Presidential Campaign Council to win the 2023 presidential election. Umeh said the apparent delay in constituting the campaign council was deliberate, saying the party leadership was taking its time to ensure the best team was galvanised. Fielding questions from newsmen in Awka, Anambra State shortly after receiving award from Ohaneze Ndigbo at its Igbo Day celebration, Umeh described Nigerians as the party's Campaign Council, having taken over the project. He said: "We are careful in the Labour Party. We don't do things because others are doing. Thousands of supporters of Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, staged a peaceful rally in Abuja on Saturday. The pro-Obi supporters marched from the Unity Fountain to the Moshood Abiola National Stadium amid heavy security. At the rally alongside the pro-Obi supporters are officers of the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Road Safety Corps. Demonstrators had last week staged a peaceful rally in Ebonyi State, in Nigeria’s South-East, as well as other states across the Federation. 61-year-old Obi is a former governor of Anambra State contesting the 2023 presidential election alongside top contenders like Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party. 2023: Obi is my second choice presidential candidate says Gov Umahi.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday in Abuja met behind closed door with Gov. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi. Speaking to State House correspondents at the end of the meeting, Umahi said he was in the State House to invite the president to inaugurate new Ebonyi State Governor’s Lodge, recently completed by his administration. According to him, the president has accepted the invitation and the project will be inaugurated in October. 2023: INEC Opens Portal For Recruitment of Ad Hoc Staff.

Ahead of the 2023 general election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun recruitment of ad hoc staff. According to the statement released on Wednesday on its official Facebook page, the independent electoral body urged interested and qualified person to visit portal. “To this end, the portal will be open to eligible applicants for registration of all categories of ad-hoc staff (SPO/PO/APO/RATECHS/RAC Managers) except the Collation officers. “The portal opens on Wednesday the 14th of September and ends on the 30th November, 2022,” the statement partly read. Recall that INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, had last week said it will publish the final lists of presidential and national assembly candidates on September 20.  The electoral body also announced that campaigns will officially commence on September 28.
