Umuahia, Abia State – The Abia State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Elder Abraham Amah, has assured party members that the recent defection of the Honourable Member representing Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency will serve as a lesson rather than a setback.
In an open letter to party faithful, Elder Amah acknowledged that the defection did not take the State Working Committee (SWC) by surprise, as they had been aware of the underlying factors leading to the move. He attributed such developments to past missteps, including the sidelining of true grassroots politicians in favor of individuals who lacked commitment to the party’s ideology but saw the platform as a means to personal advancement.
Despite this, the PDP chairman expressed optimism about the party’s future, stating that the loss of such members today would pave the way for a more resilient and principled PDP in the days ahead.
“First fool no be fool, but second fool na proper foolish,” Elder Amah remarked, emphasizing that under his leadership, the party would no longer make the same mistakes. He vowed to put an end to candidate imposition and process abuse, ensuring that only those genuinely chosen by their constituencies would fly the party’s flag in future elections.
As part of the party’s response, he revealed that the PDP had commenced legal proceedings against those who defected with the party’s mandate. He described such defections as acts of betrayal against the party and its members, assuring that the legal challenge was not driven by malice but by the need to defend the party’s sanctity, uphold democratic principles, and set a precedent against political opportunism.
Elder Amah also tendered a heartfelt apology to loyal party members for past mistakes, manipulations, and leadership errors, urging them to accept it in good faith.
“We must now channel our energy toward the road ahead. The signs are clear—there are strong indicators pointing to a better tomorrow. Do not be discouraged. We shall overcome these challenges and rise stronger than ever,” he reassured.
He further pledged that under his watch, the PDP would reclaim its lost ground and ensure that true party loyalists, backed by the will of the people, not only emerge victorious but have their victories protected.
Calling for unity and resilience, the Abia PDP chairman maintained that the party was on the path to revival and urged members to stay committed to the cause.
“Our time is near, and together, we shall rise again.”
With the political landscape in Abia State shifting, the PDP’s next steps will be closely watched as it seeks to regain lost ground and reposition itself for future electoral contests.
