In a move set to enhance digital and financial inclusion across Africa, MTN Group and Airtel Africa have entered into strategic agreements to share network infrastructure in Uganda and Nigeria. The partnership, announced in a joint statement on Wednesday, is designed to improve network efficiency, expand coverage, and provide enhanced mobile services to millions, particularly in underserved rural areas.

The deal aligns with local regulatory and statutory requirements, ensuring compliance while driving cost efficiencies and connectivity improvements. By leveraging shared infrastructure, both telecom giants aim to accelerate access to digital and financial services for communities that have yet to fully experience the benefits of a connected life.

MTN Group President and Chief Executive Officer, Ralph Mupita, underscored the significance of the agreement, emphasizing the growing demand for digital services across the continent.

“As MTN, we are driven by the vision of delivering digital solutions that drive Africa’s progress. We continue to see strong structural demand for digital and financial services across our markets,” Mupita said.

“To meet this demand, we continue to invest in coverage and capacity to ensure high-quality connectivity for our customers. That said, there are opportunities within regulatory frameworks for sharing resources to drive higher efficiencies and improve returns.”

The partnership between MTN Group and Airtel Africa marks a significant step toward reducing operational costs while ensuring broader access to mobile and financial services. As Africa’s digital landscape continues to evolve, such collaborations are expected to play a crucial role in bridging connectivity gaps and fostering economic growth.
