Labour Party Crumbles in Enugu as Ex-Guber Candidate Edeoga Defects to PDP | #NwokeukwuMascot

 Politics

Enugu’s Labour Party has suffered a significant setback following the defection of its former gubernatorial candidate, Chief Chijioke Edeoga, to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Edeoga formally rejoined the PDP at the party’s state secretariat, where he pledged his “total and unalloyed support” for Governor Peter Mbah’s administration.

Citing Governor Mbah’s “visionary, disruptive, and transformative leadership,” Edeoga stated that his decision was driven by the need to align with a leadership that prioritizes development and unity.

“It’s time to unite as a family and form a formidable front ahead of the 2027 elections,” he declared, signaling a renewed push to consolidate political strength in the state.

Welcoming Edeoga back into the PDP fold, Enugu State PDP Chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunwike, described his return as a “testament to Governor Mbah’s audacious leadership,” adding that more former members who previously left the party would soon retrace their steps.

Similarly, the Chairman of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, Mr. Obiora Obegu, hailed Edeoga’s decision as “a step in the right direction,” emphasizing that the party would now move forward “devoid of distractions and rancor.”

Edeoga’s defection marks a critical moment in Enugu’s political landscape, further highlighting the Labour Party’s dwindling influence in the state as the PDP continues to consolidate power ahead of future elections.
