Defection Fallout: Another Aide Resigns as Defections Rock Isiukwuato Lawmaker Lucky Johnson’s Camp | #NwokeukwuMascot
News
The wave of resignations trailing the defection of Hon. Lucky Udoka Nweke Johnson from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Labour Party (LP) has continued, with yet another close associate and key aide stepping down from his position in protest.
Chief (Sir) Cajethan Arinze Ude, the Deputy Director General of the Lucky Johnson Cares Foundation, has officially resigned, citing loyalty to the PDP. His resignation follows similar moves by Hon. Johnson’s Chief of Staff, Director of Media and Publicity, and Deputy Women Leader, all of whom relinquished their positions in response to the lawmaker’s defection.
In his resignation letter dated March 26, 2025, Chief Ude stated that the political path chosen by Hon. Johnson no longer aligns with his personal convictions as a committed PDP member from Uturu in Isiukwuato LGA. He reaffirmed his allegiance to the PDP, assuring that members of the foundation in his ward remain steadfast in their dedication to the party’s growth and progress.
This latest resignation further deepens the crisis surrounding Hon. Johnson’s defection, adding to the growing resistance from his former allies and the PDP leadership in Abia State.
Meanwhile, the Abia PDP has vowed to reclaim the Isiukwuato State Constituency seat, citing constitutional provisions that mandate an elected lawmaker to vacate their seat upon defection from the party on whose platform they were elected. The party has announced its intention to formally notify the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and pursue legal action to ensure compliance with Section 109 (1)(g) of the Nigerian Constitution.
Reacting to the ongoing developments, the Chairman of the Abia PDP, Elder Abraham Amah, expressed the party’s resolve to tighten its candidate selection process, stating:
“Henceforth, the Abia PDP will undertake thorough background checks before entrusting its flag to any individual—having learned, perhaps the hard way, that political roulette with characters of questionable pedigree often ends in public embarrassment. No more gambling with notoriety disguised as popularity; the party now prefers candidates with substance over spectacle, integrity over Instagram.”
With these unfolding events, the political landscape in Isiukwuato and Abia State at large remains tense, as the PDP mounts pressure to reclaim its mandate while Hon. Johnson faces increasing isolation from his former allies.
