BREAKING: More Setback for Fubara as Supreme Court Nullifies Rivers LG Election, Sacks Elected Chairmen | #NwokeukwuMascot
News
ABUJA – The Supreme Court has invalidated the local government elections conducted by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) on October 5, 2024, citing gross violations of the Electoral Act.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Jamilu Tukur declared the elections null and void, stating that RSIEC failed to adhere to legal provisions governing the electoral process. The court faulted the commission for continuing voter registration after announcing the election date, a move deemed unlawful and inconsistent with established electoral guidelines.

The Nigerias apex court further held that the processes leading to the election were fundamentally flawed, violating Section 150 of the Electoral Act, which mandates due compliance with all electoral procedures.
This ruling is another major political blow to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, as the sacked local government chairmen were widely seen as his loyalists.
