The Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Abia State Chapter, Elder Abraham Amah, has criticized the member representing Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Chris Nkwonta, describing him as an ingrate who lacks contentment.

The Abia PDP boss made this remark during his recent visit to PDP stakeholders in Akwete-Ndoki, Ukwa-East, and Ogwe, Ukwa-West. He stated that the federal lawmaker had been a serial failure until he joined the PDP in 2023, when he finally won convincingly.

He recalled that Rep. Nkwonta had previously contested for the House of Representatives seat— which he now occupies— against former Senate President H.E. Adolphus Wabara in 1992 but failed. He also contested for the positions of Abia State Governor and Abia South Senatorial seat, suffering repeated defeats.

Elder Amah noted that despite Nkwonta’s wealth, he had never won any election in the past but secured victory in 2023 under the PDP platform.

He expressed regret that barely a year after assuming office, Nkwonta defected from the party that gave him victory to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that karma would catch up with him.

He urged the people of the constituency to reclaim their seat from Hon. Nkwonta in 2027, insisting that the lawmaker had proven to be untrustworthy.

Contributing to the discussion, an elder statesman from Ukwa-East LGA, Chief Reginald Ezenta, assured the PDP chairman that the party remains strong in the area despite the lawmaker’s exit.

He alleged that Hon. Nkwonta had offered him ₦1 million to defect to the APC, but he declined.

Chief Ezenta also asserted that the PDP had never lost an election in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West since its inception and would maintain its dominance in 2027 despite Nkwonta’s defection.

Similarly, the PDP Chairman of Ukwa-West Chapter, Hon. Ben Nwachi, condemned the lawmaker’s defection to the APC, describing it as unjustifiable given the overwhelming support PDP gave him in the 2023 elections.

He assured the State Working Committee (SWC) of the PDP that the party would reclaim its mandate in 2027.

In his remarks, the former Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly (ABHA), Rt. Hon. Ngozi Ulunwa, also expressed disappointment over Nkwonta’s defection, emphasizing that the PDP would win again in 2027.

Meanwhile, a PDP stalwart, Chief Uche Nwulu, lamented that the Ukwa Federal Constituency seat, which is supposed to be rotational, had remained in Ukwa-East for nearly 20 years. He expressed hope that Ukwa-West would produce the next House of Representatives member in 2027 to ensure justice and equity.

A source who pleaded anonymity alleged that Rep. Nkwonta induced former Chairman of the Abia State Oil-Producing Areas Commission (ASOPADEC), Rt. Hon. Emeka Stanley, Mr. Sunday Uche Aja, and others with ₦3 million each to join him in the APC, while other party members received ₦1 million each for the same purpose.

The event was attended by prominent PDP figures, including the immediate past state chairman, Rt. Hon. Alwell Asiforo Okere; the member representing Ukwa-East in ABHA, Hon. Lewis Obianyi; the member representing Ukwa-West State Constituency in ABHA, Hon. Goddy Adiele; former ASOPADEC chairman Barr. Henry Chilaka; Chief S.P. Ogbonna, and other dignitaries.

  2. For Elder Ama, Hon Chris did not context election with sen. Adolphus Wabara, He, Hon Chris, was begged by Late Chief Lambert Nmecha to step down for sen.wabara which he obeyed. Let me ask, let me ask Elder Ama, Did PDP win any Federal seat in Abia north? For Chief Reginald Ezenta who claim to have rejected 1 million from Hon Chris, what was his input during the last election? It's thesame Ezenta who hijacked the solar light by (Hon Chris)that was meant for ikuorie Ward to his hotel at obehie. PDP led by Elder Ama should be thanks full to Hon Chris for removing shame on their faces rather than making unnecessary criticism. Is it not mind-blowing, the kind of democratic dividends Ukwa fed constituency have enjoyed in less than 2yrs of Hon. Chris Nkwonta.Elder Ama and co should look for better ways to put it's house in order., and stop chasing shadows.
