The immediate past Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has pledged unwavering support for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), urging members to remain loyal and committed to ensuring the party’s return to power in 2027.

Dr. Ikpeazu, who reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP despite the recent defection of some party members, emphasized that he would not abandon the party but would instead work tirelessly to restore its winning momentum.

Addressing a gathering of PDP faithful in Abia South at his Umuobiakwa country home recently, the former governor stressed the need for dedication and support from party members during this challenging period. He urged them to remain steadfast and not to abandon the party in difficult times, assuring them of his continued support given the PDP’s role in his political journey.

Speaking on the wave of defections following the party’s loss to the Labour Party in 2023, Ikpeazu encouraged PDP members in Obingwa to stay focused and undeterred by those leaving. He stressed that the party needs committed individuals willing to stand by it through challenges rather than those who become distractions.

Acknowledging the party’s current struggles, he reassured members that better days lie ahead and that those who remain loyal will eventually reap the benefits when the tides turn in the PDP’s favor.

Meanwhile, he lauded the new State Working Committee, led by Elder Abraham Amah, describing him as a man of good pedigree, capacity, and character. Ikpeazu expressed confidence that Amah’s leadership would return the party to power and urged members to support the PDP leadership while avoiding being used as agents of division.

He further called on party members to take individual responsibility for the PDP’s performance in the 2023 elections and to unite in rebuilding the party. While acknowledging that some members may choose to leave, he emphasized the importance of loyalty and sacrifice, particularly from those who have benefited from the party in the past.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of the PDP, Elder Abraham Amah, urged members to remain steadfast, assuring them that his leadership would reclaim the party’s lost mandate. He described their defeat in the 2023 gubernatorial election as a blessing in disguise, as it revealed those truly committed to the party.

Amah acknowledged that the PDP had learned valuable lessons from the last election and vowed to address past mistakes, particularly in the conduct of primaries. He pledged to oversee one of the most transparent primaries, ensuring the emergence of credible candidates.

He asserted that the PDP remains the party to beat, arguing that the current Labour Party administration in Abia has not been favorable to the people.

Despite the setback, Amah expressed satisfaction that the party remains strong in the six local government areas of Abia South. He also praised stakeholders from Obingwa for their efforts in maintaining the PDP’s presence in the area.

In their separate remarks, the PDP Chairman for Ukwa West, Hon. Ben Nwaichi, and the former State Secretary of the party, Chief Ezenwa Nkire Abiri, commended the current party leadership for their dedication to restoring the PDP to power. They pledged their commitment to mobilizing greater support for the party in their respective localities.

In an interview, the Member representing Obingwa East State Constituency in the Abia House of Assembly, Hon. Solomon Akpulonu, and the Abia South Zonal Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Enyinnaya Apollos, affirmed that the party remains strong in Obingwa. They assured supporters of their determination to reclaim victory for the PDP.
