Renowned preacher and founder of Power City International, Dr. Abel Damina, has stirred controversy within the Christian community following his remarks during the 2025 New Year’s Eve service. Addressing his congregation, Dr. Damina asserted that smoking cigars, cigarettes, or consuming alcohol should not be considered sinful, emphasizing personal responsibility over moral judgment.




In his sermon, Dr. Damina stated: “You didn’t come here for me to teach you morality; you came for me to teach you salvation by faith through Christ. You should have your own sense to know that if you smoke, your body will be affected. If you drink alcohol, you may lie down inside a gutter.”




The preacher’s comments have sparked widespread debate, with some applauding his progressive stance on personal choices, while others criticized it as undermining traditional Christian values.
