The Senator Austin Akobundu Foundation’s 6-week digital skill training program for youths in Abia Central Senatorial District concluded on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at the NOSTROCOM House, Ogurube Layout, Umuahia. The program, aimed at equipping participants with critical digital skills, ended with a call from Senator Austin Akobundu for the graduands to leverage their new knowledge to create businesses that contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth.
The initiative, solely funded by Senator Akobundu, focused on six in-demand areas of digital technology: UI/UX Design, Web Design, Professional Graphics Design, Cyber Security Systems and Operations, Digital Marketing, and Forex Trading. Addressing the graduands, the Senator emphasized the transformative potential of these skills, describing them as tools for individual success, economic productivity, and community development.
Senator Akobundu highlighted the inclusive nature of the program, noting that youths from all 62 wards in Abia Central were represented. This deliberate approach ensured equitable access to the transformative initiative.
“Let me emphasize that this program is not sponsored by any agency. It is an initiative of the Senator Augustine Akobundu Foundation, funded solely from my personal resources,” he stated.
“I invested in this program because I firmly believe that empowering our youth is the most sustainable way to build and improve on the human development indices of Abia Central Senatorial District and create a brighter future for all,” the Senator added.
The training program, valued at millions of naira, marked a significant investment in human capital development. Senator Akobundu commended the participants and facilitators for their dedication, noting that their efforts laid a strong foundation for future achievements.
A total of 186 youths graduated from the inaugural batch, with plans to train an additional 1,000 participants in the coming year.
During the graduation ceremony, six outstanding participants were recognized for their exceptional performance in their respective fields. The awardees included:

• Wisdom Ezeocha John (Graphics Design)
• Great Chioma Mary (Digital Marketing)
• Gbaruko Chidozie Godwin (Cyber Security)
• Emole Peter Adimchinaobi (UI/UX Design)
• Nwokoma Oddy (Website Design)
Each received awards and certificates of completion, underscoring the program’s commitment to excellence.
The Senator assured participants of his continued support for youth empowerment, promising further initiatives to sustain the momentum. Transportation arrangements were made for participants to return home, marking a fitting conclusion to the event.
The Senator Akobundu Foundation’s digital skill training program represents a bold step toward equipping youths in Abia Central with the tools to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital economy, fostering innovation and economic development in the region.
