The Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) has addressed rumors of a planned protest by Adhoc staff over alleged nonpayment for their roles in the November 2 local government elections.
In a statement signed by Dr. Afulike Don Christian, Special Assistant to the ABSIEC Chairman on Communication, Planning, and Strategies, the commission reassured the public and the affected workers that payments would be processed shortly.
“The Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) has charged the Adhoc Staff that worked at the just-concluded Local Government Area and Ward elections, as well as the general public, to ignore claims by mischief makers mobilizing protests under the guise that the commission will not pay for services rendered during the November 2nd elections,” the statement read.
ABSIEC confirmed that its accounts department had finalized arrangements with its lead bank to credit the accounts of the affected staff within hours.
“The commission wishes to state that its account department has already finalized plans with the lead bank of the commission to credit the concerned individual accounts in the next few hours,” the statement assured.
The commission also reiterated its commitment to the “New Abia mantra,” emphasizing that every worker who deserves wages would be duly compensated.
The statement comes amid growing speculation of unrest among Adhoc staff, fueled by delays in payment. ABSIEC’s timely response aims to calm tensions and reaffirm its dedication to fairness and transparency in its operations.
As the commission promises swift action, stakeholders will be closely monitoring to ensure that the payments are made as pledged.
