In his first statement following his election, Eric Ikwuagwu, the newly elected Publicity Secretary of the Abia State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), outlined a clear and disciplined approach to party communications. Committed to transparency and integrity, Ikwuagwu pledged to focus on critical issues, ensuring that the PDP’s engagement with the public remains factual, honest, and rooted in accountability.

In his official statement “reporting to duty” announcement via his Facebook page, Ikwuagwu emphasized the resolve to keep party conversations centered on meaningful topics, including policies, public programs, revenue generation, and expenditure. According to him, the PDP’s communications will not shy away from scrutinizing Abia State’s financial records, particularly on revenue and expenditures, to offer the public a clear view of how funds are being managed.

“We shall make the conversation about issues, policies, and programs,” Ikwuagwu stated. “We shall talk about revenues and expenditure, examine possible conflicts of interest, and provide in-depth analysis of project costs, transparency, and contract awards. Our aim is to keep engagements clean, healthy, and robust, even when political discourse becomes polarized.”

Ikwuagwu’s statement sets a high standard for his role as Publicity Secretary, promising to provide in-depth analysis and financial transparency on the state’s governance. He intends to “punch the quarterly financial report numbers,” which will involve close scrutiny of government expenditures and quarterly reports, fostering a new level of accountability in the PDP’s communications.

Furthermore, Ikwuagwu assured that the PDP will prioritize probity and accountability in all its engagements. “We shall concentrate on making it work for the people,” he added, stating that his office will maintain an unwavering focus on policies that benefit Abia State residents.

In addition, Ikwuagwu expressed his commitment to truthfulness, emphasizing that the party’s communications will be rooted in “facts and not ‘iko onu’” (mere talk). He assured the public that PDP’s messaging would maintain high standards, choosing the “high road” in public discourse even amid political challenges.

Ikwuagwu’s stance aligns with the broader vision of newly elected Abia PDP leadership, including State Chairman Elder Abraham Amah and Vice Chairman for Abia South Hon. Enyinnaya Appolos. Together, they aim to drive a new era of accountability, transparency, and people-focused policies within the party, presenting the PDP as a reliable platform for residents in Abia State.

This commitment to transparency marks a pivotal shift in the Abia PDP’s engagement with the public, promising to offer a robust, issues-based dialogue with a focus on integrity and service. Ikwuagwu’s leadership is set to bring a dynamic approach to the party’s communication, championing a standard of honesty and transparency in service to the people of Abia State.
