Three radio stations have been engulfed by fire, reportedly resulting in the loss of electronic broadcasting equipment worth millions of naira on Saturday night in Aba, the Abia State capital.

Enyimba 94.3 FM, Rose 101.9 FM, and Legend 98.3 FM are sister stations sharing a building off Margret Avenue on the PZ axis of Aba-Owerri Road. The management -Enyimba TV & Radion Ltd., in a statement on Sunday said the stations were targeted.

It said, “We regret to inform you that our three radio stations -Enyimba 94.3fm, Legend 98.3fm and Rose 101.9fm Aba – were targeted in a devastating fire attack on Saturday, November 2nd, 2024, at approximately 9.30pm.

“We are eternally grateful for the swift response and assistance from our community which helped bring the fire under control. Most importantly, we are relieved to report that all staff members are safe and unharmed.

“As a way of exercising caution, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily shut down operations across all three stations. This will enable us to assess the damage, and carry out precautionary measures in order to emerge stronger and better.”

The management promised to keep the public updated on its progress.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Abia State Governor Alex Chioma Otti visited the station to express his condolences regarding the fire incident. He described the event as unfortunate but thanked God that no lives were lost.

“I came to commiserate with the management of the Enyimba FM on the unfortunate fire incident that happened last night. We can see that the entire station with other things around it were burnt down,” Otti stated.

The governor assured the management that his government would assist in ensuring the station resumes broadcasting soon and encouraged them not to be discouraged by the incident.

He highlighted that his administration had recently launched additional emergency vehicles to improve response times during emergencies.

Otti also stressed the importance of having fire extinguishers in every office and advised caution when installing solar panels. “I understand that the fire started from the solar panel,” he said.

“That also means that as we deploy solar we also need to be careful and ensure that the connections are such that this kind of incident wouldn’t happen again,” he warned.

He expressed satisfaction that the management had insurance and promised to support them in their recovery efforts. The governor concluded by urging the community to remain vigilant as the year-end approaches.
