Umuahia, Abia State — The Abia State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced a high-powered Reconciliation Committee. The initiative, which was recently announced by the party leadership, is part of ongoing efforts to rebuild and strengthen the party’s internal cohesion ahead of future elections.




The Reconciliation Committee, approved by the state party executives, is chaired by Elder Abraham Amah, the State PDP Chairman, with Barrister Bob Ogu serving as the Secretary. The committee’s membership reflects a diverse and inclusive representation, drawing from key stakeholders within the party. The full list of committee members includes:


1. Elder Abraham Amah - Chairman

2. Bar. Bob Ogu - Secretary

3. Rt. Hon. Solomon Akpulonu - Member

4. All Members of the Abia State House of Assembly

5. Mrs. Love Ezema, MNI - Member

6. Lady Ijeoma Okorie - Member

7. Lady Gift Eugene - Member

8. Sir Tony Ezebuiro - Member

9. Rt. Hon. Emeka Stanley - Member

10. Rt. Hon. Bar Okey Igwe - Member

11. Rt. Hon. Bishop Kenedy Njoku - Member



The committee is tasked with the critical responsibility of addressing grievances and fostering reconciliation among party members. The party believes that resolving internal differences will strengthen its foundation, thereby positioning the PDP as a formidable force in Abia State politics.



The Reconciliation Committee has been given a detailed framework to guide its activities, emphasizing a structured approach to conflict resolution and party unity. Below are the key mandates:



1. Assessment of Grievances:

The committee will begin by identifying and assessing the various grievances and concerns expressed by party members and stakeholders. This assessment phase will involve collecting feedback through surveys, interviews, and open forums, ensuring that all voices within the party are acknowledged.


2. Facilitation of Dialogue:

To bridge gaps and mend rifts, the committee will facilitate constructive dialogue between conflicting factions within the party. This may include organizing meetings, mediation sessions, and other forms of engagement aimed at promoting understanding, cooperation, and collaboration among members.


3. Development of Reconciliation Strategies:

Leveraging the insights gathered, the committee will develop actionable strategies and recommendations tailored to address the identified issues. These strategies are expected to foster unity, enhance party cohesion, and promote a collective approach to decision-making.


4. Monitoring and Evaluation:

A robust monitoring framework will be put in place to track the implementation of reconciliation measures. The committee will evaluate the effectiveness of these measures over time, setting benchmarks and timelines for progress, while being responsive to feedback and changing dynamics.


5. Reporting and Recommendations:

At the end of its assignment, the committee will compile a comprehensive report detailing its findings, discussions, and recommended actions. This report will be presented to the party’s leadership and made available to members to ensure transparency and accountability throughout the reconciliation process.


6. Collaboration with the National Committee:

The committee is also mandated to work closely with His Excellency Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, PhD, the Abia State representative on the PDP National Reconciliation Committee, to align state-level reconciliation efforts with national directives and strategies.



Speaking on the committee’s inauguration, Elder Abraham Amah, the Abia PDP Chairman, expressed optimism about the initiative, emphasizing that the committee’s work is crucial for the party’s future. “This committee is not just about resolving conflicts; it’s about laying a stronger foundation for the PDP in Abia State. We are committed to ensuring that every member feels heard, valued, and integral to our collective success,” he stated.




The Secretary of the committee, Barrister Bob Ogu, added that the team is dedicated to executing its mandate diligently. “Our goal is to listen, mediate, and propose actionable solutions that will heal divisions and build a stronger party. We urge all members to cooperate fully with the committee,” he noted.




 


The establishment of the Reconciliation Committee underscores the Abia PDP’s commitment to inclusivity, transparency, and internal democracy. As the party prepares for upcoming political engagements, the leadership believes that addressing internal grievances and fostering unity will be pivotal to its electoral success.
