The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated its reconciliation committee, tasking the members to reach out to every aggrieved stakeholder and foster unity within the party.
The inauguration ceremony, held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the PDP state secretariat in Umuahia, was conducted by Barr. Kingsley Imaga, the Legal Adviser of the Abia State PDP. The event was witnessed by the 17 Local Government Party Chairmen, further underscoring the significance of the initiative.
Presiding over the event, the State Chairman of the PDP, Elder Abraham Amah, highlighted the critical role of the committee in resolving internal disputes and consolidating party unity ahead of future political engagements.
Elder Amah also announced a significant policy aimed at strengthening cohesion within the party. He declared that all elected members of the PDP in Abia State would automatically receive tickets to contest in the next election cycle unless they personally choose to decline. According to him, this decision reflects the party’s commitment to loyalty and continuity.
During the ceremony, Barr. Imaga expressed confidence in the committee’s capacity to deliver on its mandate. “With the caliber of leadership in this committee, I am confident they will succeed in resolving disputes and fostering reconciliation across the party,” he said.
The reconciliation committee, chaired by Elder Abraham Amah, includes notable members such as Rt. Hon. Solomon Akpulonu, Mrs. Love Ezema, MNI, and Rt. Hon. Emeka Stanley, among others.
The committee has been tasked with the following responsibilities:
• Engaging with all party members, particularly those with grievances, to understand and address their concerns.
• Organizing mediation sessions and open forums to foster dialogue and unity.
• Developing actionable strategies and recommendations for resolving disputes and promoting cohesion.
• Presenting detailed reports to the party leadership to ensure transparency and accountability.
