The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the members of its newly constituted reconciliation committee, alongside the date for their official inauguration.
In a statement issued by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Eric Ikwuagwu, the PDP disclosed that the inauguration ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 12:30 PM. The event will be held at the party’s secretariat in Umuahia.
The reconciliation committee comprises key party leaders and stakeholders, who are expected to foster unity and resolve internal disputes within the party. The members include:
1. Elder Abraham Amah - Chairman
2. Rt. Hon. Solomon Akpulonu - Member
3. All Members of the Abia State House of Assembly
4. Mrs. Love Ezema, MNI - Member
5. Lady Ijeoma Okorie - Member
6. Lady Gift Eugene - Member
7. Sir Tony Ezebuiro - Member
8. Rt. Hon. Emeka Stanley - Member
9. Rt. Hon. Barr. Okey Igwe - Member
10. Rt. Hon. Bishop Kennedy Njoku - Member
11. Dr. Kate Obilor - Member
12. Chief Hon. Peter Agoumba - Co-Chairman
13. Barr. Bob Ogu - Secretary
The committee has been mandated to undertake a comprehensive reconciliation process, guided by the following objectives:
1. Assessment of Grievances: The committee will identify and evaluate grievances and concerns raised by party members and stakeholders. Feedback will be gathered through surveys, interviews, and open forums to ensure inclusivity.
2. Facilitation of Dialogue: Constructive dialogue will be fostered among conflicting parties within the party. This will involve organizing mediation sessions and meetings aimed at promoting understanding and collaboration.
3. Development of Reconciliation Strategies: Based on identified grievances and discussions, actionable strategies will be proposed to resolve issues, strengthen unity, and improve party cohesion.
4. Monitoring and Evaluation: Mechanisms will be established to monitor the implementation of reconciliation measures, including setting benchmarks and timelines for progress. Adjustments will be made based on feedback and evolving circumstances.
5. Reporting and Recommendations: A detailed report outlining findings, discussions, and recommended actions will be submitted to party leadership and made accessible to members to ensure transparency and accountability.
6. Collaboration with National Committee: The committee will work closely with the PDP National Reconciliation Committee, represented by His Excellency Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, PhD, to receive guidance and support.
Ikwuagwu emphasized that the committee’s work is critical to ensuring harmony within the party as it prepares for upcoming political challenges. “We are committed to building a more united and effective PDP in Abia State,” he noted.
The announcement comes as the party seeks to consolidate its position in Abia State and address any internal disputes that could undermine its political goals. The initiative highlights the PDP’s focus on collaboration and inclusivity within its ranks.
