Umuahia — In the aftermath of the recently concluded Abia State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) congress, Chief Barr. Olugu Kalu Ugba, a prominent contender in the chairmanship race, has formally congratulated Elder Abraham Amah on his victory. In a statement co-signed with his campaign Director General, Barr. Bob Ogu, Chief Ugba emphasized the need for unity within the party and pledged continued support for the PDP’s mission in the state.

Reflecting on the outcome of the party’s congress, Chief Ugba acknowledged the spirited nature of the campaign and the democratic process, describing it as a “win-win situation” for all members of the PDP. “The race for the Chairmanship of the Abia State Chapter of the PDP has been won and lost and, as usual with family squabbles, it’s a win-win situation, and the winner is PDP,” the statement read. He highlighted that despite the challenges faced on the campaign trail, the party remains unified under a shared goal.

Chief Ugba explained that the delay in congratulating the newly elected chairman was due to the nature of their issue-based, people-oriented campaign, which required thorough consultations with key stakeholders and supporters before making a public statement. “Our campaign was synergistic in nature, and it would not have been good to rush to the press without consulting the movers and shakers of the campaign,” he partly noted.

“Our people, the race for the Chairmanship of the Abia State Chapter of the PDP has been won and lost and as usual with family squabbles, it’s a win win situation and the winner is PDP.

“We may have been tardy in congratulating the eventual winners because our campaign was an issue based and people-oriented campaign that was synergistic in nature and it would not have been good to rush to the press without consulting the movers and shakers of the campaign.

“A holistic evaluation of all that transpired on the campaign trail vis-Ć -vis what later played out at the polls would have left one perplexed but that is party politics as played in this clime. We have taken it in our stride. The party has spoken. The party is supreme. There is yet another time and season.

“These having been said and having also consulted with family, supporters, stakeholders, party faithful across the State and beyond; and also rising from the meeting held on Saturday the 9th of November, 2024 with the top most echelon of the Ishi Bu Mba Campaign Team, where we evaluated the issues surrounding the just concluded State congress, we make bold to state that we remain part and parcel of the great umbrella, the Peoples Democratic Party.

“In all contests in life, there will always be one victor; that Victor today is one indivisible Peoples Democratic Party. In pursuit of the best interest of our party, we extend our best wishes to the Elder Abraham Amah led Executive Committee. This is wishing them a successful outing. Long Live the Peoples Democratic Party.” he stated.

The message from Chief Ugba highlights the spirit of sportsmanship within the PDP as the party seeks to consolidate its internal unity and prepare for future political challenges in Abia State. His congratulatory note and reaffirmation of support are seen as a significant step toward healing any rifts that may have arisen during the competitive election process.

As the PDP in Abia State looks forward to a new chapter under Elder Amah’s leadership, party members and stakeholders are hopeful that this renewed spirit of cooperation will strengthen their collective efforts in championing the party’s ideals and aspirations.
