Abia Lawmaker Pledges to Build a New Home for Bedridden Constituent | #NwokeukwuMascot

Hon. Collins Ugochukwu Iheonunekwu, known as OCHAKE, has shown a touching act of humanity by stepping in to support Mr. Esiwoke AhiaraUmunna, a constituent who has been bedridden for over 25 years. AhiaraUmunna, from Abayi Isingwa Autonomous Community in Ward 4 of Isi Ala Ngwa Local Government Area, has been living in dire conditions since a gunshot injury he sustained during a robbery left him disabled. With no wife or children to care for him, he has relied on the sporadic kindness of a few people in the community to survive.






Hon. Iheonunekwu recounted a recent emotional encounter with AhiaraUmunna while he was on his way to Clifford University, Ihie. To the lawmaker’s surprise, AhiaraUmunna had crawled to his house, calling out for help. “OCHAKE, OCHAKE, come to my rescue. I have no food to eat, and my house has collapsed,” the distressed man said. Moved by his words and difficult situation, Hon. Iheonunekwu promised to visit him to see how he could help.





Fulfilling that promise, The PDP lawmaker, Hon. Iheonunekwu visited AhiaraUmunna at his collapsed residence and immediately committed to building a new home for him. “I am taking on this responsibility for the glory of God,” Iheonunekwu remarked, adding that he prays for the bedridden man to enjoy good health and long life.






This compassionate gesture has drawn attention within the community, with many applauding the lawmaker’s hands-on approach in addressing the suffering of one of his most vulnerable constituents. The promise of a new house brings a ray of hope to AhiaraUmunna, whose health and living conditions have been neglected for years.





Hon. Iheonunekwu’s intervention reflects the power of small acts of kindness and the difference they can make in the lives of those most in need. His commitment to his constituents serves as a reminder of the vital role elected officials play in bettering the lives of those they serve, especially the forgotten members of society.
