Power has been restored in parts of Nigeria following the collapse of the national grid, which had earlier caused widespread blackouts across the country. However, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is yet to issue an official statement confirming the restoration of power or providing details on the extent of the recovery.

The grid, which is responsible for distributing electricity across the nation, experienced a sudden collapse on 14th day of October 2024, plunging many regions into darkness. While power has been restored in certain parts of the country, several areas remain without electricity, fueling frustration among citizens and businesses.

Efforts to fully restore power are ongoing, with TCN technical teams reportedly working to address the system failure. “We are monitoring the situation and working towards a comprehensive resolution,” a source familiar with the matter disclosed, while urging patience as the restoration process continues.

The national grid in Nigeria, known for its frequent instability, has suffered multiple collapses over the years, resulting in significant disruptions to both daily life and economic activities. This latest incident has renewed calls from energy experts for the government to invest in sustainable infrastructure and diversify the country’s energy sources.

Industry stakeholders emphasize the urgent need for Nigeria to reduce its reliance on the national grid by exploring alternative energy sources, such as solar and wind power. Despite ongoing discussions on transitioning to renewable energy, progress has been slow due to regulatory challenges and financial constraints.

As some regions of Nigeria see power restored, others are still waiting for a return to normalcy. In light of the continued instability, citizens are increasingly concerned about the government’s ability to provide a reliable power supply, particularly as businesses already struggle with high energy costs and the rising price of fuel.

Experts and stakeholders are urging the federal government to take immediate action to improve the stability and efficiency of the power sector. The development of sustainable infrastructure is seen as a key solution to the ongoing challenges facing Nigeria’s energy sector.

While TCN is yet to release an official statement, many Nigerians hope that a long-term strategy will soon be implemented to ensure a more reliable and resilient electricity supply for the future.
