Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has expressed concerns over the competence of lawyers under the Ministry of Justice in negotiating contracts with construction giant Julius Berger. Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, during a broadcast on Magic FM Aba’s flagship program People and Politics, the governor stated that the legal professionals on the state's payroll lack the necessary qualifications to handle negotiations for the Port Harcourt road project.
Governor Otti emphasized that specific aspects of the negotiations require individuals with specialized expertise. He pointed out that handling such significant contracts demands a level of competence that the state's current legal team may not possess
His words: “ I am not aware of any senior advocate in the ministry of justice, there are technical aspects of certain jobs that are handled by people who have the confidence in what they do”

Additionally, Governor Otti accused the former Abia State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Obinna Oriaku, of attempting to undermine the government by retrieving documents from state authorities. He alleged that Mr. Oriaku's actions were part of an effort to scandalize the administration, further intensifying the political discourse in the state.
Recall our recent report detailing how Governor Alex Otti admitted to paying ₦50 million in contract negotiation fees to a law firm owned by a friend who had donated buses to his campaign—a revelation that sparked outrage among Abia residents, many of whom questioned the legality of such an agreement.
