The Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, who made this known during a press briefing on Thursday said that the troops also arrested 59 suspected IPOB/ESN members, recovered 10 assaulted arms, 45 rounds of 7.62 metre NATO ammunition, over 90 live cartridges, 69 assaulted ammunition and rescued 17 kidnap hostages in August.
According to Buba, “The troops of Operation Udoka conducted offensive operations against the Indigenous People of Biafra and their Eastern Security Network terror group in the South-East states.
“The operations conducted targeted killing terrorists, as well as arresting them. Our operations against the Indigenous People of Biafra and their Eastern Security Network cohort were recorded in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Imo and Enugu states.
“In the course of the month, we had activities of this group that we had to carry out operations in those states to overcome them. Troops intercepted and arrested Indigenous People of Biafra and their Eastern Security Network terror elements on several encounters, significantly in Ohafia and Aguata local government areas of Abia and Anambra states.
“Troops intercepted and arrested Indigenous People of Biafra and their Eastern Security Network terrorist collaborators in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State.
“Overall, the troops of Operation Udoka neutralised 21 terrorists, arrested 59 and rescued 17 kidnap hostages in the month of August. Additionally, the troops of Operation Udoka recovered 10 assaulted arms, 45 rounds of 7.62 metre NATO ammunition, over 90 live cartridges and 69 assaulted ammunition.”
Buba further said that troops of the Nigerian military killed a total of over 14 terrorist leaders in Northeast and Northwest of Nigeria in August.
He said that troops killed 419 terrorists across all theatres of operations in the country, arrested 767 suspects, rescued 448 kidnap hostages, recovered 278 weapons and over 11,000 assaulted ammunition.
According to him, as a result of military operations across the country, particularly in the Northeast and Northwest, “Boko Haram and Islamic State’s West African Province (ISWAP) operations are now a declining threat to Nigeria.”
Buba added that the troops of Operation Delta Safe arrested 54 persons involved in crude oil theft and denied the oil thieves of over 3.7 million litres of crude oil, over 800,000 litres of AGO, popularly known as diesel, over 100 litres of kerosene and over 27,500 litres of PMS, popularly known as fuel.
“The troops of Operation Delta Safe recovered 163 assaulted ammunition, destroyed 94 wooden boats as well as 339 illegal refining sites in August.”
