BREAKING: Supreme Court Affirms Ododo as Kogi Governor | #NwokeukwuMascot

In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court on Friday affirmed the election of Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Kogi State governorship election held on November 11, 2023.

The five-man panel of justices dismissed the appeal filed by Murtala Ajaka, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who had challenged the outcome of the election, citing allegations of substantial non-compliance with the Electoral Act.

In a unanimous judgment, the Apex Court upheld the decision of the Court of Appeal, which had earlier affirmed Mister Ododo's election on May 27. The Supreme Court ruled that the allegations of substantial non-compliance with the Electoral Act were not proven by Ajaka.

Furthermore, the court clarified that the allegations of age falsification and certificate forgery raised by the appellant were pre-election matters, which should have been addressed at the Federal High Court, the proper jurisdiction for such cases.

As a result, the Supreme Court dismissed Ajaka's appeal for lacking merit. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced that Ododo secured 446,237 votes, defeating Ajaka, who garnered 259,052 votes, to emerge victorious in the governorship race.
