Amid widespread frustration and chants of "We are hungry! We are hungry!" from the residents of the Federal Capital Territory, Minister Nyesom Wike made a heartfelt plea to dissuade participation in the upcoming #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests, scheduled to take place from August 1 to August 10. The protests are driven by severe economic difficulties and soaring living costs affecting the populace.

In a bid to address the growing unrest, Wike addressed the crowd, urging them to calm down. “A hungry man does not have time to waste. I beg you, a hungry man no get time to waste,” Wike said, attempting to empathize with the residents’ plight.

Wike acknowledged that the economic hardship and hunger being experienced were not solely attributable to President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stating, “The hunger has been there since before now. It did not start today.”

Expressing a personal commitment to alleviating the residents' suffering, Wike reassured them, "I know what you are passing through. I'm just begging you to believe that things will get better. I am willing to sacrifice to ensure improvements."

He emphasized his belief in President Tinubu’s leadership, urging patience from the public. “I know the president can do the job. That is why I accepted this appointment. So I am asking you to be patient a little longer,” Wike said, encouraging residents to hold on to hope despite their current challenges.

Reiterating his confidence in the administration's ability to bring about positive change, Wike stated, “I believe in Tinubu’s administration and in its capacity to reduce hunger soon. This hunger will lessen very soon.”
