It is no longer news that everything the PDP mentioned during the campaign against Alex Otti is gradually being implemented against civil servants.
Alex Otti has denied many civil servants their salaries by adopting a pattern of dropping employees, using obnoxious verification policies, and labeling people as ghost workers while they are alive and actively working.
During the campaign, Alex Otti promised to clear the arrears of leave allowances owed to civil servants. However, a year has passed, and he has been busy indirectly dismissing workers. He sacked all the permanent secretaries who served under his predecessor, Okezie Ikpeazu.
Additionally, Alex Otti retired all directors with eight years of service. As if that were not enough, he reversed all command promotions given to civil servants but used the same promotions to appoint some civil servants as permanent secretaries.
Alex Otti has also refused to pay civil servants their ₦35,000 wage award approved by the federal government. His strategy and reforms during this challenging time seem to disproportionately affect poor civil servants who cannot afford a three-bedroom bungalow after 35 years of service.
On July 4, 2024, Alex Otti’s Head of Service reversed the command promotion conducted by his immediate predecessor. One wonders whether a sitting governor has the right to carry out promotions when people are recommended ? this excesses of this administration got to stop, where are the labour union, people should be encouraged to stage a protest against this administration.
