Female Truck Driver Harassed by Revenue Touts, Causes Traffic Gridlock on Aba-Ikot Ekpene Expressway | #NwokeukwuMascot

Umuahia, Abia State – A significant traffic jam has developed along the Aba-Ikot Ekpene expressway, immediately after the popular timber market. following an incident involving a female truck driver and revenue touts posing as state agents. The situation has caused severe disruption, particularly after the timber market area.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 3 PM yesterday. The female driver, whose truck was loaded with cement, was reportedly harassed and physically handled by the touts. In the altercation, they allegedly seized her keys and phone, leaving her stranded and unable to move the vehicle.
Mr. Anyanwu, a motorist who witnessed the event, recounted that the situation escalated when the distressed driver, in an attempt to regain control, accidentally collided with a Mercedes Benz. The touts fled the scene immediately after the collision.
Local residents and shop owners expressed frustration over the incident, emphasizing the chaos it has caused. The stationary trailer has led to a complete blockage of the expressway, creating a severe traffic gridlock. Commuters and private car owners are experiencing significant delays and inconvenience due to the obstruction.

One distressed commuter shared, “I was stuck at that spot for over two hours. It’s absolute chaos, and something needs to be done immediately.”
This is coming few weeks truck drivers blocked Aba Ikot Ekpene in protest of their colleague who was beaten by Abia state revenue touts, raising urgent calls for the Ministry of Transportation and other relevant government agencies to intervene and removing their touts obstructing vehicle from the road. The removal is necessary to alleviate the traffic situation and restore normalcy for the affected motorists.
The incident has highlighted the ongoing issues with revenue collection and the need for stricter enforcement against such practices to prevent future occurrences.
