Abuja, Nigeria - The Nigeria Police Force has announced the commencement of the enforcement of the e-Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) on July 29. This transition to a digitalized system aims to streamline the documentation and verification processes for vehicle ownership and related transactions, enhancing the security framework across the country.

In a statement released on Saturday in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, emphasized the importance of compliance, urging vehicle owners to register their vehicles under the new system. The e-CMR is designed as an advanced, real-time online repository of motor vehicle data, crucial for supporting police investigations, operational activities, and combating vehicle-related crimes, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and armed robbery.

"The e-CMR will make services such as change of ownership, change of license number, change of engine, and change of chassis/body seamless," Adejobi explained. "This system will ensure the validation of vehicle genuineness and ownership, and enhance the ability to track and recover stolen vehicles effectively. It will also prevent the purchase of stolen vehicles by unsuspecting buyers."

Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has directed full publicity of the e-CMR initiative to inform the public about the requirements, processes, and enforcement procedures. The public can obtain the digitalized e-CMR certificate online at (https://cmris.npf.gov.ng). For further inquiries, individuals can contact the CMR Command Centre at FHQ Abuja (08117777666, 09169892000) and FHQ Annex Lagos (08117777555, 09169891000). Technical support is also available via email at cmftech@npfcmr.ng.

Adejobi called for the understanding and support of Nigerians and residents, highlighting the Nigeria Police's commitment to leveraging technology and strategic approaches to enhance public safety and national security. The enforcement of the e-CMR is deemed necessary to ensure a safer environment for vehicle ownership and to curb the trend of vehicle theft by reducing the likelihood of stolen vehicles being sold within the country.

Vehicle owners and users are encouraged to embrace this initiative promptly to ensure optimum safety and security.
