Obikabia Checkpoint Attack: Sgt. Ugochukwu Charles Laid to Rest Amid Tears | #NwokeukwuMascot

Ugwunagbo, Abia State - In a deeply somber ceremony, Sergeant Ugochukwu Charles, a dedicated military officer with 30 years of service, was laid to rest in his hometown in Ugwunagbo Local Government Area. Sgt. Ugochukwu was tragically killed on May 30, 2023, during an attack on a military checkpoint at Obikabia Junction in the Ogbor-hill axis of Aba.


The widely condemned attack, carried out by unknown assailants, claimed the lives of Sgt. Ugochukwu and four other soldiers, highlighting the alarming rise in insecurity in Abia State. In response to the surge in heinous crimes, the Abia State Government has restricted tricycle operation hours within Aba and Umuahia. This incident has raised significant concerns about the safety of both military personnel and civilians in the region.


Sgt. Ugochukwu, who was only a few years away from retirement, had served his country with honor and dedication. His loss is deeply felt by his family, friends, and fellow soldiers. Known for his bravery and commitment, he leaves behind a legacy of service and sacrifice.

The funeral was attended by a large gathering of mourners who came to pay their last respects to a man who had devoted his life to protecting others. Military officials and local leaders present at the ceremony emphasized the urgent need for enhanced security measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
