Former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, has strongly condemned the alleged killing of five soldiers on guard duty in Aba by unidentified assailants. In a statement released in Abuja on Thursday by his Media Adviser, Uchenna Awom, Senator Abaribe described the incident as disheartening and barbaric. He urged security authorities to swiftly apprehend the culprits and ensure they face the full weight of the law.
Senator Abaribe, who represents Abia South in the Senate, emphasized that there is no justification for harming or killing security officers. He appealed to the military and other authorities to manage the situation carefully to protect innocent civilians who are not involved in the criminal activities.
"I am at a loss as to the evil motives of those responsible for the killings. It can never be the character of our people and such devilish tendencies do not reflect who we are," Abaribe stated.
"Nothing on earth can justify what has happened. It is sorrowful and stands condemned. However, I appeal to the authorities to consider the innocent civilians while pursuing the culprits for ultimate justice."
In his statement, Senator Abaribe expressed condolences to the families of the slain soldiers, the military authorities, the government and people of Nigeria.
The tragic incident claimed the lives of two soldiers from Abia State. Staff Sergeant Charles Ugochukwu, who had served for 30 years, hailed from Ugwunagbo, and Cpt Lucky Ikechukwu Ikpeama, who had served for 11 years, from Umubefu Nvosi, Isialangwa south LGA.
