In a significant political assembly, Hon. Obinna Agaodi, the former Ikwuano Legislative Leader, alongside fourteen former PDP councillors from the 2020-2022 term, reaffirmed their steadfast commitment to the People's Democratic Party (PDP). The gathering took place at Hon. Agaodi’s country home in Umuezeukwu, Oboro, within the Ikwuano local government area. Attendees included former Ikwuano PDP councillors, Oboro Ward IV Chairman Elder Obinna Peter, LGA PDP Organizing Secretary Mr. Osondu Ajuzie, HRM Eze Larry Ogbonnaya Agwu of Ajatanaigu Autonomous Community, and HRH Eze V.C. Ohunta of Umuokeigbo Autonomous Community.
During his address, Hon. Agaodi encouraged the former councillors and party loyalists to maintain their dedication to the PDP despite current political challenges. He emphasized the party’s resilience and enduring presence, stating, "Don't be moved by recent political trends. The PDP is still very much intact. We have the quality, and the people are on our side. 2027 is just around the corner. Stay solidified. Stay strong. Don't be disturbed. We will lead the state again."
Hon. Agaodi underscored the necessity of unity and collective effort within the party, calling for unwavering support for Senator Augustine Akobundu in his leadership role. He remarked, "Senator Akobundu wears a big shoe as the leader of the party in Abia State by the position he occupies. He, therefore, needs our unwavering support. We must remain resolute and committed. This is not a time to fret."
The former councillors responded positively, unanimously agreeing to uphold their allegiance to the PDP and support Senator Akobundu's leadership. This collective commitment indicates a strong and united front within the party, positioning it for future success.
A noteworthy highlight of the event was the defection of High Chief Dr. Benson Ogbonnaya Agwu, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to the PDP. Chief Agwu, also known as Dr. B, was promptly registered by the Oboro Ward IV Chairman, Elder Obinna Peter.
Explaining his reasons for switching parties, Chief Agwu praised the leadership quality within the PDP and expressed his desire to contribute to the party's vision and goals. "I have seen the quality of leadership that is available in the PDP, and I want to be a part of it," he stated.
This event marks a significant shift in the political landscape of Ikwuano, highlighting growing support for the PDP. The recommitment of former councillors and the defection of a key APC chieftain underscore the PDP's solidified base and promising prospects for future electoral victories.
