In response to recent reports circulating online, former Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has come forward to refute claims that he receives a pension from the Abia State Government. The reports falsely suggest that Dr Ikpeazu is among the former Governors of the State who are currently benefiting from a pension scheme.

These reports, which are clearly sponsored, have been intentionally crafted to mislead the public. In an official statement issued by Sir Onyebuchi Ememanka, the Spokesman to Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, titled "IKPEAZU DOES NOT RECEIVE ANY PENSION FROM THE ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT," it is clearly stated that since the conclusion of his tenure on May 29th, 2023, Dr Ikpeazu has neither requested nor received any form of payment from the Abia State Government. Furthermore, he has no intention of doing so in the future.

The statement in full reads as follows: "The attention of the immediate Past Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has been drawn to reports circulating online regarding the repeal of the 2001 Law, which provided for the payment of pensions to former Governors and Deputy Governors.

"The said reports, which are obviously sponsored, have been deliberately crafted to falsely suggest that Dr Ikpeazu is currently receiving a pension from the Abia State Government.

"Dr Okezie Ikpeazu wishes to make it abundantly clear that since relinquishing the position of Governor of Abia State on May 29th, 2023, he has neither made any requests nor received any form of payment from the Abia State Government. He categorically denies any involvement in such matters.

"Former Governor Ikpeazu has since moved on with his life and is currently engaged in other areas of interest. He advises the Abia State Government and its various organs to focus on the task of governance and refrain from engaging in unnecessary media sensationalism. The general public is urged to be properly informed and not misled by false information."
