The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has released the names of the 16 Army personnel who lost their lives in an ambush by suspected youths in the Okuama community of Ughelli South local government area in Delta State.
The fallen soldiers include Lieutenant Colonel AH Ali, who was the Commanding Officer of the 181 Amphibious Battalion, Major SD Shafa, Major DE Obi, Captain U Zakari, and Sergeant Yahaya Saidu. Also among the casualties are Corporal Yahaya Danbaba, Corporal Kabir Bashir, Lance Corporal Bulus Haruna, Lance Corporal Sole Opeyemi, Lance Corporal Bello Anas, Lance Corporal Hamman Peter, Lance Corporal Ibrahim Abdullahi, Private Alhaji Isah, Private Clement Francis, Private Abubakar Ali, Private Ibrahim Adamu, and Private Adamu Ibrahim.
These brave soldiers were on a peace mission to the Okuama community when they were attacked without provocation. The community is currently engaged in a communal clash with the neighboring Okoloba community of Bomadi local government area.
The DHQ condemns this senseless act of violence and extends its deepest condolences to the families of the fallen heroes. The sacrifice of these soldiers will not be forgotten, and the DHQ remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of our nation.
