Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has been released from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
According to a THECABLE report, a reliable source who pleaded anonymity revealed this development.
However, he was immediately taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for interrogation, and there are indications that fresh charges will be filed against him.
Emefiele had been in DSS custody since June after President Bola Tinubu suspended him. He was initially arraigned on a two-count charge related to “illegal possession” of firearms but the charges were later withdrawn.
A fresh 20-count charge was filed against him, and Emefiele had proposed a plea bargain agreement, which included his resignation as CBN governor. He officially resigned from the CBN on September 22.
