Abia State University publishes names of expelled twelve students, suspended four others for cultism-related cases | #NwokeukwuMascot

The 266th Regular Senate of Abia State University Uturu (ABSU) has ratified the decision of Management to expel Twelve (12) students, and suspend four (4) others for one academic session, for various offences in breach of their matriculation oaths.

Management had earlier considered and approved the recommendations of the Senate Security Committee after thorough investigations for the different cases involving stealing on gun point, cultism, illegal possession of firearms, de-marketing the University, examination malpractice and other offences against the affected students.

The students are:

1.) Emmanuel Nwabuike, Accountancy, Mat No: 2018/118606

2.) Obasi Clinton, Marketing, Mat No: 2013/114992 and two others at large.

Offence: Stealing on gun point and recovery of locally made pistols and live cartridges from them.

Punishment: Expulsion

5.) Ndubuisi Desmond, Economics, Mat No: 2018/114268

6.) Obi Favour Chimezie, Mechanical Engineering Mat No: 2018/114202

Offence: Membership of Cult group and possession of firearms

Punishment: Expulsion

7.) Agu Ugonna, Medicine & Surgery, Mat No: 2017/111778

8.) Nwaogwugwu Uchechukwu, Elect/ Electronics, Mat No: 2018/114433

9.) Ogu Chinedu, Architecture, Mat No: 2019/120152

Offence: Membership of Cult group and illegal possession of firearms

Punishment: Expulsion

10.) Chukwudefu Lucky, Industrial Chemistry, Mat No: 2018/117755

11.) Alfa Amah John, Political Science, Mat No: 2019/121591

12.) Uchendu Chukwuebuka Confidence, HIR, Mat No: 2019/119823

Offence: Membership of Secret Cult group
Punishment: Expulsion

Others whose offences were committed to suspension are:

1.) Victor Kalu, Architecture, Mat No: 19/124118

Offence: De-marketing the University on his Facebook page calling for the “Boycott of ABSU Post-UTME”

Punishment: Suspension for one Academic Session, 2022/2023 Academic Session.

2.) Ifeanyi Kingsley, Mass Communication, Mat. No: 2019/123515

Offence: Alleged to be member of secret cult but refused to appear before the committee despite several invitations.

Punishment: Indefinite Suspension

3.) Onuoha Wisdom, Mass Communication, Mat. No: 2019/121359

Offence: Alleged to be member of secret cult but refused to honour invitation by the Senate Committee.

Punishment: Indefinite Suspension

4.) Prosper Chigozirim, Mass Communication, Mat. No: 2019/128214

Offence: Alleged to be member of secret cult and refused to appear before the committee despite invitations.

Punishment: Indefinite Suspension

However, four other students are to be given letters of warning for their involvement in alleged cases of cultism but were victims of circumstance.

The students are: Christopher Michael Kalu; Political Science, Okorafor Florence; Mass Communication, Igbokwe Tochukwu and Okezie Grace, non students of the University.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Onyemachi M. Ogbulu, used the forum to reiterate the zero tolerance of his administration for all manner of criminality by students, adding that the Senate Committee is also investigating alleged cases of extortion and sexual harassment by staff and assured that anyone found guilty of the alleged offences will be punished in accordance with the extant regulation of the University.
